While it may seem daunting, meditation is actually incredibly simple, and furthermore: fun! You can meditate with any amount of time you have available to set aside, and there are so many enjoyable strategies and techniques you can use to increase your success with meditation and feel more relaxed in your life! If you are going to practice meditating, it is best that you set aside time every day in order to meditate. However, if you have a busy schedule or find that you simply can’t afford daily time to invest in this relaxation technique, you can also consider scheduling it in a few times a week. The idea is to develop a regular practice that allows you to remain consistent and continually focus on increasing peace in your life. For those who have read up on meditation as a relaxation strategy in the past, you may have felt overwhelmed with the amount of information available. If you spend too much time reading on how to meditate, you might find that it seems to be a lot of work just to let go of some stress! The reality is, meditation is incredibly easy and a lot of fun.   1.   How to Meditate for beginners- Pick Your Environment

The first and most important step to meditating successfully is having a great environment to do so! You can meditate almost anywhere, as long as it is peaceful enough for you to actually be able to relax in. While optimal meditation spots include areas such as a quiet park or your living room, you can also meditate in “unconventional” places such as your car, or at your office desk!

 

There are a few primary components that contribute to having an effective space for meditation. The basic needs of one of these spaces include: free of excessive noise, comfortable temperature, and free of your need to concentrate. So, you don’t want to meditate when you are trying to do something that requires your focus. As long as you can find these three qualities in your space, you are free to start meditating!

 

 

  1. Get Comfortable

Your ability to relax largely relates to your ability to get comfortable. If you are having a hard time getting settled, or are stressed out about something in your immediate environment, you are probably not going to be successful with meditating.

 

In order to increase your comfort, you should ensure that your meditation space is free of distractions and anything that might cause discomfort. Additionally, you can add some things to your environment to make it even more cozy! You can: diffuse essential oils or burn incense, play relaxing music, wear comfy clothes, choose a comfy seat or use a comfy blanket, and even dim the lights if you can. The more you can relax each one of your senses, the easier it will be for you to completely relax and enjoy your meditation experience.

 

 

  1. Pick A Time – Any Time!

Many people get the idea that meditating is a relaxation technique that only works if you have a significant amount of time to invest in it. This is simply not true! While some people enjoy meditating for half an hour, or even up to several hours at once, this is not required if you are looking to meditate. In fact, you can meditate in as little as three minutes! The idea with meditation is that quality does not always come from quantity. You do not have to invest a significant amount of time into your meditation practice in order to be effective at it.

 

If you are just getting started with your meditation journey, there are several ways you can work this relaxation technique into your schedule. You can start with meditating first thing in the morning for about five minutes each day. Or, you can even schedule a few five minute sessions each week! As long as you are being consistent and have a few minutes to devote to your practice, you will be successful with it. The idea of meditation is not to completely clear your mind and think of absolutely nothing. Instead, it is to think of only things that are relaxing. Instead, you should focus on the present moment. The best way to do this is to get in touch with your body.

 

Having a body check-in on a daily basis, particularly during meditation, allows you to really tune in to your body and what it needs. You can start by recognizing the temperature on your skin, and your breath as you inhale and exhale. Then, you can start to notice any areas in your body that feel particularly more relaxed than others. Next, focus on areas that are the least relaxed. Finally, send love from the more relaxed regions into the least relaxed regions, and allow for your entire body to submit to the experience of relaxation.

 

 

  1. Concentrate On a Simple Object

If you find that meditating with your eyes closed is too hard, you can meditate with your eyes open, instead! I have done it many times (it works great especially when you’re out in nature). In order to find success in this method, you should ensure that you are in an area that doesn’t have a significant amount of “visual pollution” or clutter around. Then, you can get ready to meditate using all of the same techniques as above. Finally, instead of closing your eyes, you can focus on a single, simple object. If you are having a hard time with staying focused on your body, you can instead focus on that object. Try your best to spend time noticing as many different details about that object as you can while you relax.

 

 

Meditating is really a simple, enjoyable practice that is incredible for assisting people with relieving stress. While it can seem daunting and difficult, the reality is that it is actually extremely simple and requires little to no time at all. Having a successful meditation practice as a part of your daily regimen provides a great opportunity for you to lead a more peaceful, enjoyable life overall.
